Brenda Bellosi
In my work, I am interested in engaging the viewer through bizarre storytelling, surprising contrasts of imagery, humor, color, and paint application. I’m ultimately creating a moving psychological experience. My creative process relies heavily on an emotive response to the medium. Similar to the work of the Beat poets or stream-of-consciousness writing, I utilize instinct to give shape to my work. Life is full of weird, funny, tragic, angry, and loving moments. My work is about capturing my own experiences and sharing them with the viewer.
I paint quite literally whatever pops into my head trusting that my intuitive responses to the painting will lead the work where it needs to go. The physical process and the energy exchange involved in creating a piece is what excites me the most. I’ve worked in both the two-dimensional and three-dimensional realms. This has contributed to applying a very thick coating of oil paint utilizing only palette knives to the surfaces of my paintings. This process allows me to relay a sense of emotional depth and immediacy .
